I am Sumedha — aka Indian Yoga Girl, a yoga teacher, dog lover and mother of two naughty boys. I strongly believe you must bring your wholesome to the table if you want to thrive in today’s world, your personality, your asanas, your lifestyle. I was introduced to Yoga in 2007 in Seattle, USA. During my 7 years in Seattle, I tried various forms of Yoga including (Iyengar, Bikram, Ashtanga and Hatha). Yoga in United States is for fitness and flexibility and it helped me introduce to a new way of life.
I moved back to India after my elder one was born in 2012 and was introduced to 1000 Yoga (Sivananda style yoga) in Bangalore under Dr. Pradeep Gowda. My true love with yoga began in 2015, after my second son was born and I was 18 Kgs overweight; desperately needed to lose weight ! I went to Akshar Power yoga (Bangalore) and learnt dynamic asanas, breathing practices and bhakti yoga.
Akshar yoga is one of the purest forms of Yoga (followed in Himalayas) associated with Jagannath Peeth and Kaulantak Peeth. This not only helped me to lose weight and build strength but also changed my lifestyle.
I felt passionate about Yoga and wanted to start teaching, thus enrolled in Teacher training with Akshar power Yoga in 2016. This introduced me to meditation and chanting, I gave up non-vegetarian food, started following satvik diet, started doing sadhana and practice – 3 hours of yoga every day. My curiosity increased and I wanted to learn the theory of Yoga and the philosophy behind it.
